Unexpired Low THC Oil cards stay valid until their printed expiration date. - Cost: $74.99 physician telehealth evaluation with code 75off at checkout, for first visits and yearly re-certifications alike (refunded in full if the physician does not approve you) + $30 DPH card fee ($3.75 service fee if paid via the online portal; money orders carry no DPH service fee; payment due within 60 days of DPH's email or the card is cancelled; insurance does not cover it). DPH bills the $30 only after a physician certifies the patient. Card valid 5 YEARS. - Certification cadence: ANNUAL physician certification is required to maintain access (added by SB 220, effective 2026-07-01); patients with incurable or irreversible conditions are exempt from annual re-certification. - Process: confirm a qualifying condition, schedule the telehealth visit (by phone or video), physician certifies (doctor-patient relationship + state prescription-database check; telehealth allowed under Georgia Composite Medical Board Rule 360-3-.07 when held to the in-person standard of care; certification is not a prescription and physicians are never required to certify), physician uploads the certification and the patient's ID to DPH's registry, DPH verifies and emails payment instructions, pay the $30 within 60 days, card ships by UPS with a signature required (allow up to 10 business days after payment is processed; no secure address or a P.O. Box means pickup at the nearest health department with ID). - No waiver: SB 220 deleted the patient/caregiver waiver requirement (former O.C.G.A. 31-2A-18(g)) effective 2026-07-01, and DPH's physician instructions (updated 7/29/2026) include no waiver or notarized form. - ID: a current Georgia driver's license or state ID showing the current address; a U.S. passport, military ID, or out-of-state license must be paired with a utility bill, phone bill, medical bill, or pay stub showing full name and street address. - Products (per the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission): oils, tinctures, transdermal patches, lotions, capsules, ingestibles, and vaporizer products, including medical cannabis flower for vaporization. Ingestibles and vaporizer products were added July 1, 2026; before that, only oils, tinctures, transdermal patches, lotions, and capsules were allowed. Maximum 1,200 mg THC per package. No smoking; no cannabis-infused candies, cookies, or other foods; no home growing. - Possession: products containing a cumulative total of up to 12,000 mg of THC, in the manufacturer's labeled pharmaceutical container, with a physical or electronic DPH card in possession (SB 220 replaced the old 5%-THC / 20-fl-oz standard). - Use rules (O.C.G.A. 16-12-234 as rewritten by SB 220): no smoking or combustion; no vaporization by anyone 21 or younger; no use of medical cannabis in any manner in any public place, by anyone. DPH must adopt implementing rules by January 1, 2027. - Out-of-state cards: NO reciprocity. Since July 1, 2017 (SB 16; Haleigh's Hope Act of 2015 had no out-of-state provision), O.C.G.A. 16-12-191 has treated a card issued to the holder by another state that allows the same possession as Georgia law as lawful authority to POSSESS for visitors present in Georgia fewer than 45 days; the Commission says such cards "may be recognized." Visitors cannot buy: Georgia dispensaries and pharmacies sell only to patients and caregivers on Georgia's registry. SB 220 kept the rule, switched it to medical cannabis, and required the out-of-state card to be issued to the person carrying it. - Federal rescheduling: state-licensed medical cannabis moved to Schedule III effective April 22, 2026; a Georgia Medical Cannabis card is still required to buy and possess. - Employment: Georgia's medical cannabis law does not require employers to permit or accommodate marijuana use and preserves written zero-tolerance policies. - Qualifying conditions (18, per DPH): any cancer except skin cancer unless metastatic; ALS; Alzheimer's disease; autism spectrum disorder (18+) or severe autism (<18); epidermolysis bullosa; HIV diagnosed as stage III; hospice program patients (in- or outpatient); inflammatory bowel disease; intractable pain (cause cannot be removed; full range of pain management used at least 6 months); lupus (added 2026); mitochondrial disease; multiple sclerosis; Parkinson's disease; peripheral neuropathy diagnosed as severe; PTSD (18+, from direct exposure to or witnessing of trauma); seizure disorders (epilepsy or trauma-related head injuries); sickle cell disease; Tourette's syndrome. (Anxiety, insomnia, and arthritis are not on the list.) - Certifier: physician only (MD/DO), fully licensed in Georgia with a principal place of practice in Georgia; NPs and PAs cannot certify. - Eligibility: patients 18+ who are Georgia residents with a qualifying condition; patients under 18 qualify via a parent/guardian/legal custodian caregiver. - Caregivers: a parent, guardian, or legal custodian of a patient under 18; an adult the patient designates to help with purchasing, possessing, and administering; or a health care institution that agrees to let the patient possess and use medical cannabis on its premises. More than one caregiver is allowed; each applies for a separate $30 card. - Where to buy: dispensaries licensed by the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission and independent pharmacies licensed by the Georgia Board of Pharmacy; an active Georgia card is required at purchase. - DPH registry contact: MCRegistry@dph.ga.gov, (770) 909-2765. ## Pages - [Georgia medical marijuana card (home)](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/): what the card is, cost summary, four-step overview, FAQs. - [How it works](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/how-to-get-a-cannabis-card-in-georgia/): the six-step process, required ID documents, the timeline, why the old state waiver is gone, and DPH's 60-day payment window. - [Cost](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/georgia-cannabis-card-cost/): the cheapest Georgia cannabis card, line by line: $74.99 with code 75off, the $30 five-year state card, the $3.75 online payment fee, and DPH's 60-day payment deadline. - [Qualifying conditions](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/georgia-cannabis-qualifying-conditions/): the full 18-condition list with the July 2026 expansion explained. - [Doctors](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/georgia-cannabis-doctors-online/): who may certify in Georgia (MD/DO practicing in-state only), what the phone or video visit covers. - [Renewal](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/georgia-cannabis-card-renewal/): the annual certification clock, the five-year card cycle, and legacy Low THC Oil cards. - [Medical cannabis law](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/georgia-medical-cannabis/): products including flower for vaporization, the 12,000 mg and 1,200 mg limits, vaping and public-use rules, licensed sellers, rescheduling, and employment. - [Caregiver cards](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/georgia-cannabis-caregiver-card/): the three caregiver categories, how caregivers register, conditions for minors, and caregiver fees. - [Out-of-state cards](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/georgia-cannabis-card-reciprocity/): no reciprocity, the 45-day possession rule (in place since 2017), why visitors can't buy, and what new residents should do. - [Refund policy](https://georgiacannabiscard.com/refund-policy/): a full refund of the $74.99 evaluation if the physician does not approve the patient. ## Accuracy & honesty - Program facts come from official Georgia sources (dph.georgia.gov Medical Cannabis Patient Registry pages, updated 7/1/2026; DPH physician instructions, updated 7/29/2026; O.C.G.A. as amended by SB 220; gmcc.ga.gov). Certification is decided solely by an independent, Georgia-licensed physician; if the physician does not approve the patient, the evaluation fee is refunded in full.
