Georgia Medical Marijuana Card Renewal
Georgia renewals run on two clocks. A Georgia-licensed physician re-certifies your qualifying condition every year ($74.99 with code 75off, refunded in full if you're not re-certified), while the $30 Medical Cannabis card itself lasts five years. Patients with incurable or irreversible conditions are exempt from the annual step.
How do you renew a Georgia medical cannabis card?
- Book your renewal visitSchedule your annual Georgia cannabis re-certification online.
- Re-certify by phone or videoA Georgia-licensed physician reconfirms your qualifying condition for medical cannabis.
- Get your annual certificationYour physician completes Georgia's Annual Medical Cannabis Certification to keep your registry access active.
- Keep the card currentReplace your five-year Georgia medical cannabis card for $30 when it expires.
What are the two Georgia renewal deadlines?
Think of it as a yearly check-in and a five-year card swap. The certification anniversary matters most: since July 1, 2026, annual physician certification is how Georgia patients keep buying, so put it on your calendar like a prescription refill. The card expiration comes around far less often, but an expired card stops dispensary and pharmacy purchases just as cold. If the $30 replacement fee goes unpaid more than 60 days after DPH's email, the card is cancelled until your physician reinstates it. The re-certification itself is the same quick phone or video visit described in our process guide.
Georgia renewal questions
Is a Georgia cannabis renewal yearly or every five years?
Two clocks run at once. The physician certification renews annually (since July 1, 2026, that yearly sign-off is how patients keep access), while the $30 Medical Cannabis card itself is valid for five years. Patients with incurable or irreversible conditions skip the annual step.
When should I start the renewal process?
A few weeks before your certification anniversary or the card's printed expiration, whichever comes first. A lapse in either pauses your legal access to medical cannabis until it is brought current, so set a reminder rather than racing the date.
Do I need another doctor visit to renew?
Yes, for most patients. A Georgia-licensed physician reconfirms your qualifying condition each year, by phone or video where the physician permits. The statutory exception: conditions that are incurable or irreversible, which do not require annual re-certification.
What if my Georgia card already expired?
You cannot buy medical cannabis until things are current again, but nothing resets permanently. Get re-certified by a Georgia physician and pay the Department of Public Health's $30 fee for a fresh five-year card, and your registry access resumes.
Did the 2026 law change how renewals work?
Yes. SB 220 added the annual physician certification requirement and exempted patients with incurable or irreversible conditions, while keeping the card itself on its five-year cycle, valid even if you don't use it, and renaming it the Medical Cannabis card.
Do I need to replace my old Low THC Oil card?
No. DPH says any Low THC Oil Registry card that hasn't expired stays valid after the rename, and law enforcement should keep recognizing it until its printed expiration date. Replacement and newly issued cards carry the new Medical Cannabis name, so you'll switch over when your card is next renewed.
