Georgia Medical Marijuana Caregiver Card
A Georgia medical marijuana caregiver card lets a trusted adult or facility help a registered patient buy, possess, and use medical cannabis. Three kinds of caregivers qualify: a parent, guardian, or legal custodian of a patient under 18; an adult the patient designates; or a health care institution. Each caregiver card costs $30.
Who can be a medical marijuana caregiver in Georgia?
Georgia's registry statute recognizes three kinds of caregivers, and each one is tied to a specific patient who has a qualifying condition. The caregiver doesn't need a diagnosis of their own; eligibility comes from the relationship to the patient. Once registered, caregivers carry their own Medical Cannabis card and work within the same 12,000 mg total-THC possession limit as patients.
| Caregiver | Whose caregiver | Role under Georgia law |
|---|---|---|
| Parent, guardian, or legal custodian | A patient under 18 with a qualifying condition | Holds the caregiver card for the child |
| Designated adult | A patient who names them | Helps with purchasing, possessing, and administering medical cannabis |
| Health care institution | A patient it treats for a qualifying condition | Agrees to let the patient possess and use medical cannabis on its premises |
Which conditions qualify a child for medical cannabis in Georgia?
Children qualify from the same list of 18 conditions as adults, with two age rules written into the statute: autism spectrum disorder qualifies a patient under 18 only when it's diagnosed as severe autism, and post-traumatic stress disorder qualifies only patients who are at least 18. The certifying physician must be licensed in Georgia with a principal place of practice in the state, which can include the specialist who already treats your child.

Yes. Registered caregivers with an active Georgia card can purchase at Commission-licensed dispensaries and at independent pharmacies licensed by the Georgia Board of Pharmacy, within the same 12,000 mg total-THC possession limit that applies to patients.
Do caregivers pay the $30 Georgia card fee too?

Yes. A health care institution can serve as the caregiver for a patient it's treating for a qualifying condition, if it agrees to let that patient possess and use medical cannabis on its premises. Participation is the institution's choice.
Can a caregiver give a minor vape products in Georgia?

Only for cards sent to a health department, which happens when you lack a permanent or secure home address or use a P.O. Box. Anyone other than you or your caregiver needs an authorization form you've signed, plus their own ID and yours. Cards delivered to your home by UPS need a signature instead.
